What is the difference between explosion-proof fans and ordinary fans?

Explosion-proof fans are mechanical equipment used in locations with flammable and explosive gases to prevent safety accidents triggered by combustible materials. They are commonly applied in pharmaceutical factories, chemical plants, warehouses, spray-painting workshops, underground coal mines and other sites.

Differences between explosion-proof fans and ordinary fans:

1. Different motors are adopted. Explosion-proof fans must be equipped with explosion-proof motors.

2. Explosion-proof fans have requirements for the material of the impeller and the inner wall of the corresponding casing. The materials shall not generate sparks in case of friction and collision. For example, aluminum impellers matched with iron casing inner walls, or iron impellers with aluminum rings fitted on the casing inner walls.

3. Explosion-proof fans specify a minimum clearance between the impeller and casing. In contrast, ordinary fans usually require a maximum clearance for higher efficiency, which creates a conflicting requirement.

4. Explosion-proof fans have stricter safety protection requirements at the inlet and outlet.

In industrial areas, certain vapors and gases are frequently released into the air. Any contact with combustible substances, such as sparks, may cause an explosion. This is where explosion-proof fans play a vital role. With elaborate design in materials, shape and structure, explosion-proof fans avoid spark generation that can come into contact with air. They can continuously provide necessary ventilation while protecting workers from risks of accidental combustion, explosion and injury.
